Footballer seriously injured in stab attack

Nathan Paul has undergone two operations

A KENT footballer is recovering in a London hospital after being attacked with a knife on Saturday night.

Maidstone United midfielder Nathan Paul, who was supposed to be celebrating his 21st birthday on Wednesday, has undergone two operations.

His injuries are believed to be serious but not life-threatening.

Maidstone United chairman Paul Bowden Brown said: "We're totally shocked and disgusted by what's happened. He's not only a great fotballer, but a great lad, who shows so much respect.

"We're totally gobsmacked by what's happened. We wish him a speedy recovery and offer our best wishes to his family."
