Maidstone and Weald: Helen Grant MP reveals she is backing Home Secretary Teresa May for the Conservative Leadership

Helen Grant, MP for Maidstone and the Weald, has revealed that she is backing Teresa May to become the next Prime Minister.

The current Home Secretary is one of five candidates running for the Tory leadership.

She is up against Justice Secretary Michael Gove, Energy and Climate Change Minister Andrea Leadsom, Work and Pensions Secretary Stephen Crabb, and former Defence Secretary Liam Fox.

Mrs Grant said: "I have spoken personally with all five candidates and I will be voting for, and campaigning for, our Home Secretary Teresa May to become out next party leader.

"Her campaign launch speech yesterday was outstanding, showing a plan and a vision for how to take the country forward.

"She has a proven track record in high office and she commands the respect of the Parliamentary Party.

"She is the Prime Minister in waiting."
