A 90-year-old woman who went missing from her Maidstone home, prompting police to launch a helicopter search for her, has been found.

Violet Day was believed to have left her home in Armstrong Road, South Park, at some point between midnight and 5am today.

But minutes ago police revealed the pensioner had been found safe and well and thanked everyone who helped in the hunt for her.

She was thought to be wearing a cream knitted cardigan, cream trousers and green shoes, and may be carrying a cream patterned handbag.

A police spokesman earlier said: "Officers are growing increasingly concerned for her welfare and are keen to hear from anyone with information."
