Police are investigating how an historic bridge came to be badly damaged.

The large hole that appeared in Teston Bridge's wall was initially thought to have been caused by the stormy weather.

Now officers are probing the possibility it could have been the result of a hit and run crash.

The bridge is closed

The damage was first reported at 5.39pm last Thursday and, to ensure public safety, the road was closed while structural engineers assessed the damage.

Anyone with information is asked to call Kent Police on 01622 604100 quoting 23-1080.
