A HOME owner is to escape prosecution for stabbing a man who was allegedly attempting to burgle his property.

Police arrested 39-year-old Chris Murray, following an incident at his home in the Fant area of Maidstone. But police have now said there is no evidence he acted unlawfully, and officers have told him he will not be charged with any offence.

The incident took place in April on the night when a builder sliced through a power cable and blacked out much of the Fant area, including Maidstone Hospital, for several hours.

The man who was stabbed was taken to hospital, but his injuries were not life-threatening.

Following his arrest Mr Murray was held in Maidstone Police Station until 6pm the following day, when he was released on police bail.

A police spokeswoman said: “This case was dealt with by an experienced investigator and reviewed by a senior lawyer. Consideration was given to the CPS guidance.”
