The cold snap has led to a number of accidents on roads in and around one of Kent's towns.

On Tuesday at around 6.30pm a Toyota Prius lost control coming down Detling Hill, towards Maidstone on the A249, just before Jade’s Crossing. The car ended up on its roof, but police said the driver suffered only cuts and bruises and was taken to Maidstone Hospital.

By 9.30am on Wednesday, emergency services had dealt with six accidents involving cars colliding and skidding in ice and thick fog.

A blue Mercedes and a motorbike were in collision in Terrace Hill, Maidstone, at 7.45am. The rider came off his bike and suffered head, knee and ankle injuries.

The road was closed while ambulance crews tended to the rider on the pavement. He was taken to Maidstone Hospital and the road was closed for around 20 minutes while the accident was dealt with.

Smarden Road in Headcorn saw two accidents, one at 8.20am, the other just after 9am, with cars skidding off the road. Both drivers were not seriously injured.

At 8.30am a car left the road, collided with a tree and ended up in a ditch, at Darman Lane, Laddingford. There were five occupants in the car and two children, an eight-year-old and a 10-year-old suffered chest injuries.

The female occupants suffered minor injuries. All were taken to Maidstone Hospital.

Two cars collided in Harp Farm Road, Boxley, at 9.15am, and emergency services also attended an accident in Lower Road, East Farleigh, where two cars collided, just after 9.30am.

Mid Kent Police spokesman Pippa Taylor said: "We would just urge drivers to be careful given the current conditions and to take care as the weather is so changeable."
