Inspection team returns to 'weak' hospitals

Health inspectors have re-visited hospitals in Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells which were graded as weak for the quality of their services.

Last October the Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust was said to be "weak" by the Healthcare Commission after inspections in 2006. The rating was influenced by a significant outbreak of the superbug C-diff that year.

The result of the latest inspection will not be known until October.

In its latest annual health check, commission inspectors were told by the trust’s management that it has already put into place action plans to stop the spread of infection and improve patient care.

It also has a new chief executive and is in the process of establishing a new board.
