A pensioner is proving it is never too late for new experiences, as she tackles an adrenaline-packed bucket list, which includes bungee jumping, parachuting and mountain climbing.

Lynn Walters was able to tick off the first item earlier this month, when she was given a pitchside seat at her very first football match.

The 68-year-old was joined on the outing, to watch Hastings United take on rivals Walton Casuals, by fellow Sutton Valence Care Home resident, 96-year-old Gordon Mills.

The trip was organised by staff at the North Street complex.

While Lynn, from Maidstone, had never stepped inside a stadium, Gordon, is a huge sports fan and regularly attended fixtures until he became too ill to go.

He told care home staff how much he missed experiencing the atmosphere of a live match.

The pair were given scarves and hats and VIP treatment during Hastings’ 1-0 home win.

Lynn has now announced she is the newest Hastings United supporter.

She said: “When I came here I had a bucket list of what I wanted to do. At the top of that list was going to a football match.

“I found it invigorating. I’m a Liverpool fan because I come from there but I’ve never been to a football match. When they scored I jumped up and celebrated.”

Her remaining life goals require more of a head for heights, however.

Among the daring challenges she has set herself are a parachute jump, hot air balloon ride and bungee jump.

Lynn is also keen to scale a mountain in the Lake District and learn to sing.

The trip to the football was organised as part of the Wishing Well programme, in place in all Brighterkind’s 70 care homes, which ensures staff work hard to get an understanding of their residents, learning more about their life stories and what they would really like to do.

Care assistant Gill Cameron took to the stands with Lynn and Gordon on a bitterly cold afternoon last month.

She added: “Lynn and Gordon had a wonderful day, they were treated like VIPs.”
