Police have been carrying out vehicle checks in a joint-agency operation to catch fly-tippers.

Officers were working in co-operation with Maidstone council at the A249 at Detling this morning to identify unregistered waste-carrying vehicles.

Operation Lasso also involved The Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA), Driver Vehicle and Lincensing Agency (DVLA), and Department of Work and Pensions (DWP).

Roadside checks were also carried out for benefit fraud, vehicle defects, unlicensed drivers and untaxed vehicles.

Failing to register as a waste carrier can land an operator with a fine of up to £5,000.
