A man who robbed two teenagers at knifepoint on consecutive days has been sentenced to 32 months in prison.

Wayne Plumb, 21, previously of Quarry Road, Maidstone, pleaded guilty in the face of overwhelming evidence to two counts of robbery.

The first attack took place on July 8 on Maidstone East Station High Level Bridge where he took an ipod, mobile phone and wallet from an 18-year-old man after placing a knife to his stomach.

The following day he returned to the same place and carried out a similar attack on an 18-year-old woman, taking her phone and purse.

The police investigation uncovered irrefutable evidence that resulted in the offender’s guilty plea at court.

Detective Kelly Weekes said: “Crimes of this severity are thankfully so rare in Maidstone that a major investigation was very quickly mounted in this case. Large numbers of officers were called in to help and a variety of tactics were used.

"This quick response has culminated in removing Wayne Plumb from the streets for a considerable period of time. This case should serve not only as a deterrent to criminals, but more importantly reassure the people of Maidstone that on the rare occasions we suffer crimes of this severity, we will act quickly and decisively to bring the offender to justice.

"I am grateful to the victims and witnesses in this case who provided compelling and overwhelming evidence.”
