Plans to close Station Road in Aylesford, splitting it in two, have been postponed.

Works by Network Rail to renew the level crossing infrastructure were planned to take place from Saturday until Monday, February 24.

But Kent Highways confirmed repairs have been postponed until further notice.

Traffic would have been diverted via the M20 or Maidstone town centre.

In February last year, Network Rail made a similar decision to postpone works at the crossing - which has been blamed for long tailbacks for commuters in the village.

Station Road was due to be closed for 18 days, but was cancelled at the last minute.

Chatham and Aylesford MP Tracey Crouch said she was disappointed with how little advanced warning there had been for the closure, which she said could split Aylesford in two.
