Fog and collapsed bridge cause delays on M20 and A20 between Maidstone and M26 junction for M25

Early morning fog and Saturday's bridge collapse are being blamed for delays on the M20 and A20 this morning.

Queues have formed on the London-bound carriageway of the motorway between junctions 7 for Detling and 3 for Borough Green and the M26.

Kent County Council said the congestion was due to "limited visibility in places caused by patchy fog, and speed restrictions following the incident over the weekend".

Just after midday on Saturday, a footbridge over the M20 collapsed when it was hit by a lorry with a digger on the back of it.

The road was shut until about 7pm on Sunday.

A 50mph speed limit remains in place between junctions 4 for Leybourne and 2 for Wrotham and Sevenoaks.

KCC warned drivers to expect delays this morning.

The authority sent out a message shortly after 11.15am saying there were still minor delays in the area.

Slow moving traffic was also reported on the London-bound A20 at Larkfield, between Teapot Lane and Lunsford Lane, although this has now cleared.

KCC said this was a knock-on effect of delays on the M20.
