The M20 has reopened early in both directions after works to the Teapot Lane footbridge finished early.

The stretch between junctions 4 and 6 near Aylesford was completed ahead of the scheduled 6am Monday completion time.

At 10pm on Friday, a four-mile stretch of the motorway was shut in both directions between Leybourne and Blue Bell Hill.

The closure was to allow for the dismantling of the Teapot Lane Bridge near Aylesford station, as part of a project to turn the stretch of the M20 into a smart motorway.

For the next few weeks Highways England will be improving the bridge foundations and support pillars. The new bridge will be lifted into place by crane in November and will involve a weekend closure.
