Popular magician Paul Daniels showed his magic touch after getting lost near the River Medway on Thursday.

The 76-year-old entertainer was directed into Allington by his sat-nav after performing at the Hazlitt Theatre, in Earl Street, Maidstone.

He was travelling with wife Debbie McGee, 55, but found himself on the wrong side of the river.

Thankfully, he was found by traffic officers from Kent Police, who escorted him to his hotel.

After arriving at a hotel in Allington Lock he tweeted: “Satnav sent us up a lane to wrong side of river. Got a police escort to the hotel. Nice guys. Thank you.”

Three days later he was travelling to East Grinstead, West Sussex, and tweeted: “I wonder if I will tour again after this ends? Love the audiences but the roads are now getting truly ridiculous.”

A police spokesman said: “Police came across a motorist who was lost in the Maidstone area.

“Officers identified where he needed to go and ensured he got there safe and well.”
