Maidstone United could play their home games at Chatham Town's Maidstone Road ground next season.

Stones chairman Paul Bowden-Brown, pictured, has acknowledged the deal to play at Ashford has been unsuccessful, with a host of postponements handing both clubs substantial losses.

Mr Bowden-Brown has confirmed that using the Chats’ home – just six miles from Maidstone town centre – is an option which will be explored after discussions between the Stones and Ashford.

He said: "At this stage I can’t confirm whether Ashford will continue to host our games next season but we won’t break the contract at Ashford unless all parties are in agreement – us, Ashford and the landlord.

"If that happens and the league gives the go-ahead, then Chatham is an option and one I know the supporters are keen on.

"The whole reason for going to Ashford was to generate money for the club but it has not worked out that way, with the cancellations and the pitch struggling to cope with that amount of football.

"I honestly believe if things stay as they are and we have another winter like this one then both Ashford and Maidstone could go under."
