Maidstone United Football Club close in on new striker

Maidstone will be aiming to maintain their unbeaten away league record when they travel to Boreham Wood on Saturday.

Joint-boss Alan Walker, pictured, is hoping the addition of a new front man will help them in their quest and he spent the week trying to seal a deal.

The Stones sit mid-table in the Ryman League Premier Division and Walker feels extra strength is needed to help them climb the league.

"Everyone knows we’re struggling up front and we’ve been working on that," said Walker. "We’ve been missing Meshach Nugent and he’s still some weeks away from being fit.

"The young players have come in and done well but they are not ready to play week in, week out yet."

Walker was "reasonably confident" of securing the player’s signature before this weekend.

He said: "We need someone with strength to hold the ball up."
