Maidstone United boss Alan Walker is in the market for extra firepower

By Alex Hoad

Maidstone joint-boss Alan Walker is hoping to bolster his side’s attacking options, despite both his strikers netting last Saturday.

Two front-men found the net in the same game for the first time in seven months in the 2-0 win at Ashford Town (Middx) with James Pinnock and Matthew Wright on target.

However, Walker has revealed striker Meshach Nugent, currently on loan at Ryman League Division 1 North VCD, will not be returning yet and said he was “working on a couple of strikers” but would not go into further detail.

“Shack is still a few weeks away from fitness," Walker said. "His loan agreement was indefinite but would run for a minimum of a month. He has been there for a month but he still needs games before he can come back.”

Saturday’s win took Stones up to seventh in the Ryman League Premier Division and just four points behind second-placed Boreham Wood with a game in hand.

The Stones face a second trip to Sussex to face Bognor inside a month for Saturday's FA Trophy second qualifying round tie.

The teams drew 0-0 at Nyewood Lane on October 3 – one of just six points the rock-bottom Rocks have earned in 12 league games.

Club captain Jay Saunders will return after suspension but defender Roland Edge is likely to miss several weeks after sustaining a torn calf.
