Maidstone United player-manager Jay Saunders says neither he nor the club want a first ever relegation on their CV

Maidstone player-boss Jay Saunders says neither he, nor the club, want a first-ever relegation on their CV ahead of another last-day battle to escape relegation.

Three straight wins and five in the past six games have, incredibly, brought the Stones to the threshold of safety in Ryman League Premier Division, meaning a win at Hornchurch on Saturday and Hastings failing to beat Aveley would complete their great escape.

Saunders (pictured) admitted he was thrilled with how things had gone since he came to the helm.

"I know the club has not gone down before and I have never been relegated in my career and I still don’t want that to happen," said Saunders.

"That is a big part of it for me. We really want to get out of this and we’ll do everything we can to make it possible."

Do you think the Stones can complete an incredible escape from relegation? Have your say below.
