A man has been arrested on suspicion of rape after a patrol in Maidstone.

The incident was reported to police on Wednesday, in the Grove Green area of the County Town.

A 26-year-old man from the town was arrested in the early hours of this morning, and remains in custody while inquiries are ongoing.

A police spokesman said: "At this stage, it's believed the suspect was known to the victim."
