Man accused of driving wrong way on M20 near Maidstone and causing a crash

A man has appeared in court after being charged with dangerous driving.

Just after 5pm on Tuesday, April 11, a suspected stolen black Toyota Prius drove away from police into oncoming traffic after it was stopped on the A20 London Road in Maidstone.

Uniformed officers approached the vehicle while it was stationary at a set of lights before it made off towards the M20 and hit a police officer in the process.

The car headed down the coastbound carriageway until it collided with another car and the suspect fled the scene.

Valentas Sluckas, of no fixed address, was shortly located and arrested by officers.

The 38-year-old was charged with seven offences, including dangerous driving, assaulting a police officer, failing to stop for a constable, failing to stop at the scene of an accident, handling stolen goods, disqualified driving, and driving without insurance.

Sluckas was remanded in custody to appear before Medway Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 13 April.
