Maidstone: Man charged with assaulting a police officer after disturbance on High Street

A man has been charged with assaulting a police officer following a reported fight in Maidstone town centre.

Police were called to reports of an affray in the High Street at around 2am on Thursday.

Two men were arrested as the scene, and it's then alleged a police officer was assaulted as one of the men was being taken into custody.

Police have been criticised

Matthew Pritchard, 31, was later charged with assaulting a police constable, and attempting criminal damage to a property.

The Rotherham man has been bailed to appear before Maidstone Magistrates Court on Friday, October 20.

The second man arrested was later released without charge.
