A man was lucky to escape serious injury after being crushed against a chip shop door when a lorry driver tried to turn his truck in a narrow street.

During a delivery to the town centre regeneration works site in Gabriels Hill, Maidstone, an HGV driver squashed his co-worker against the shop font, breaking the plate glass door.

Fortunately, the man reportedly escaped with a very minor injury.

Plate glass was cracked by the man's body at Britannic Fish Bar

The incident at Britannic Fish Bar left the restaurant and takeaway with damage to its signage and cracked glass.

CCTV footage shows the moment when the man was pressed up against the shop front.

Owner Ahmet Arslan says water has been leaking into the restaurant when it rains as a result.

Mr Arslan said: “He smashed the window, cracking the glass.

“The man is lucky to be alive, he could have been killed, the shutter probably saved his life.”

The 27-year-old says that drivers often don’t take enough care when manoeuvring on the street.

“Some lorry drivers don’t care. There are so many kids around here but they are just driving carelessly,” he added.
