Maidstone man killed in town centre attack named

A man who died in hospital after suffering a head injury during a town centre fight has been named locally.

Wayne Chester, 50, was taken to a hospital in London yesterday following the brawl in Week Street, Maidstone, at around 10.30pm.

Detectives have since arrested four teenagers in connection with the incident. A 15-year-old, 16-year-old, 17-year-old and an 18-year-old were all arrested last night and remain in custody.

A police spokesman said: “Detectives investigating the death of a man in Maidstone have arrested four people.

Officers were called to Week Street, Maidstone at 10.30pm on Friday following reports of a disturbance.

“A 50-year-old man from Maidstone was taken to a London hospital with a head injury where he subsequently died.

“A 16-year-old, a 15-year-old, an 18-year-old and a 17-year-old, all male from Maidstone were arrested in connection with the incident and are currently in custody.

“Detectives would like to hear from anyone may have witnessed the incident who hasn’t already spoken to officers. Call Kent Police on 101 quoting reference 29-1768.”
