A man has been rescued from a burning flat in Maidstone.

Six fire engines were sent to the scene and crews needed breathing apparatus to tackle the blaze.

It happened in a block of flats in James Whatman Way at 5.20pm.

The householder was pulled to safety and passed into the hands of paramedics.

Crews remained at the scene to damp down and make the area safe.

The cause of the blaze is not yet known.
