A man who was charged with assaulting two police officers over the weekend will appear in court today.

John Leigh, 29, from Salomons Road, Tunbridge Wells, is alleged to have assaulted the two, causing them actual bodily harm, after a disturbance in Monson Road at lunchtime on Saturday.

One of the policemen is still in hospital, while the other has been discharged. A third man Leigh is alleged to have assaulted was also treated by paramedics but did not need to go to hospital.

Tunbridge Wells district commander, Chief Inspector Dave Pate said: "I would like to thank you those members of the public who stopped and helped the officers following this incident. Our thoughts are with the officers as they recover from their injuries."
