THE body of a middle-aged man was found floating in the River Medway in the

heart of Maidstone this afternoon.

Police, ambulance crews and firefighters were called to the riverbank near

the Fremlin development at 12.20pm.

Maidstone police have not yet released details of what happened but are treating the death as suspicious.

They believe the man is about 50 years old. He has not yet been identified.

The body is understood not to have been in the water for long and was spotted by a passer-by.
