A Maidstone man will spend more than three months behind bars after stealing meat, washing detergent and perfume.

Matthew Gillett pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 42 days for the offences, which were committed in January and February at shops in Willington Street and Week Street.

The 32-year-old, of Cambridge Crescent, Shepway, was handed a heftier sentence as the crimes were committed during the period of a suspended sentence.

The man was sentenced to 98 days in prison. Stock image.

He must also pay an £80 victim surcharge.
