Repair works to a medieval bridge hit by a drink-driver will take another month to complete.

Teston Bridge has been closed since August 5 after semi-professional footballer Ben Emery, from Thanet, crashed his BMW into the parapet.

Kent County Council contractors have been working to repair two cracks measuring 10ft and dislodged stonework.

This was due to be completed by Sunday but work has been hampered by a shortage of lime to create historically accurate mortar to repair damage to the Maidstone side of the Grade I listed span.

The bridge will now be closed until at least November 3.

A diversion route involves Tonbridge Road, Bow Road, Maidstone Road, Hampstead Lane, Benover Road, High Street, Yalding Hill and Lower Road.
