Last year's Mela

This year marks the 10th Maidstone Mela, which takes place in Mote Park.
It starts at 12.30pm on Sunday, September 9, before moving on to an opening ceremony with the Mayor of Maidstone, Cllr Rodd Nelson-Gracie, at 1.15pm.
Performing on the stage will be PBN (Panjabi by Nature) and the Magnificent Motown Band.
Groups from in and around Maidstone are booked to appear throughout the afternoon. The town’s Finnish Merenkurkut vocal ensemble will sing spiritual, folk and contemporary Finnish songs. Square Pegs and the Mandy Ellen School of Dance will perform, along with the winners of this year’s Maidstone’s Got Talent competition.
Maidstone council’s cabinet member for community and leisure services, John A. Wilson, says: “It will be another not to be missed event in Maidstone this year. All the headline acts will be appearing on the Sunday, along with food stalls from every corner of the globe, and community events. Mote Park will be full of the colour, sights, sounds and smells of exotic places from around the world.”
More information from www.visitmaidstone.com or collect a programme, with new parking arrangement and plan of the site inside, from Jubilee Square, near the town hall, on Saturday September 1.
