Southeastern trains has apologised after leaving hundreds of passengers on a platform because their train drove off without the conductor.

The conductor helped a partially-sighted passenger off the 4.37pm London Victoria to Ashford service last night when it stopped at Otford.

Completing his good deed, he looked up to see the train pulling off without him.

When the driver arrived at the next stop, Kemsing, he realised his mistake and asked the hundreds of passengers to get off and wait for another train.

It was because the conductor was needed for safety reasons on the train.

A spokesman for Southeastern trains said: "We are sorry for what happened and are looking into the incident and apologise for any inconvenience."
