Firefighters doused a blaze at the back of a major pet store in Aylesford overnight.

No animals were harmed by fire or smoke at the Pets at Home store at the South Aylesford Retail Park, but investigators suspect it may have been the work of arsonists.

Crews were called out to the Quarry Wood Industrial Estate just before 8pm on Saturday and spend almost two hours at the scene.

Fire pallets at the back of the building were alight and the back of the property was affected outside with some very slight smoke damage reported inside.

Fortunately none of the animals were affected and staff were able to open as usual on Sunday.

Police are investigating.
