Attempted Shell petrol station cash machine theft on A249 Detling Hill

Police have closed a petrol station where thieves used a blow torch to try to steal a cash machine.

The Shell garage off the Maidstone bound carriageway of the A249 Detling Hill has been cordoned off following the incident.

Officers were called at around 3.30am after two men were seen trying to take the machine.

As officers arrived, the suspects drove away in a white Toyota Hilux pickup truck.

They were chased but the vehicle was lost as it entered woodland in the direction of Thurnham.

Police searched the area but the pick-up has not yet been found.
