A man has been arrested following a rooftop protest.

Officers were called to Holtye Crescent in Maidstone at 3.48pm yesterday, after a man climbed onto a roof wearing no shoes or shirt.

A cordon was put in place while police attempted to talk him down.

Neighbours said he climbed out of a window and onto a neighbouring roof.

Jenny Shepherd, 21, said: "I live just outside the road closure. He seems harmless, it is just a waste of the time of all these police and paramedics who could be helping someone else."

A police dog unit was sent, alongside five police cars, two ambulances and an ambulance car.

Around 6.30pm the man was finally taken down by a cherry picker attached to a fire engine.

Police said a 28-year-old man from Maidstone was arrested on suspicion of theft following the incident. He was in police custody this morning.
