Police used incapacitant spray to detain a man suspected of driving dangerously down a pedestrianised shopping street, before taking refuge in a cafe.

A large number of squad cars and vans were seen outside The Munch House in King Street, Maidstone and eyewitnesses said they saw officers pursuing a man.

Officers were called at 8.05am to reports of a car being driven dangerously through the town centre, down Union Street and Week Street. The car then stopped in King Street and the man went into the cafe.
