A Maidstone man has been charged with two counts of shoplifting after he was arrested in Mill Street.

A 30-year-old man has been charged with two counts of shoplifting.

John Sweeney, of Willington Street, Maidstone, was arrested in Mill Street yesterday.

Three patrol cars were seen in the town centre road, outside Kabanos convenience store, at about 4pm.

Police were called to reports of a theft at a shop in Mill Street, Maidstone.

He was remanded in custody to appear before magistrates via video link today.
