A forensic tent has reportedly been put up outside a property in Brokes Way, Tunbridge Wells

A forensic tent has been put up outside a property in Brokes Way, Tunbridge Wells, as police activity at the address enters its fourth day.

Officers and bomb disposal experts have been investigating the flat after firefighters discovered a number of suspicious items while dealing with a chip pan fire at a nearby home on Monday. ]

Chemicals were also discovered, but these were found to be held legitimately.

A 55-year-old Tunbridge Wells man has been arrested and remains in custody. It is not yet known what he is being questioned on suspicion of.

Three households are understood to have been evacuated from their homes while the investigation is underway.

Dave Pate, chief inspector at Kent Police said; "The ongoing police search at the address in Brokes Way, Tunbridge Wells will continue for the rest of the day on Thursday, September 21.

"Kent Police has every sympathy for those inconvenienced by this incident, particularly those who have been relocated from their homes whilst officers work to establish the area is safe."

After the fire broke out, residents were evacuated while two fire engines brought the flames under control.

The resident of the home affected suffered smoke inhalation and cuts to his hand. He was given oxygen at the scene.
