A teenage burglar was caught out after he took a soggy run through a park and left his muddy footprints at the scene of the crime.
Dean Marney, 19, thought to wear gloves to burgle a home in Mote Avenue, Maidstone, but was not so clever when it came to his footwear.
Once officers arrived at the scene, they easily tracked Marney down because not only had he left a trail of footprints he had also managed to drop all his ill-gotten gains.
At Maidstone Magistrates’ Court Marney admitted one count of burglary.
Noel Watkins, prosecuting, said: “He left a paper trail.
“He had been in Mote Park which was wet and muddy. They found footprints.
“The [stolen] items were strewn all over the road so officers just followed.”
Catherine Sparks, defending, said: “He has been taking cannabis since he was 13.
“He has nothing to do but come to Maidstone and drink and take cannabis.”
Magistrates adjourned Marney’s sentencing until Monday, June 7. In the meantime Marney, of Bybrook Road, Kennington, is on unconditional bail.
