Police close Upper Stone Street in Maidstone

A man's been detained and a road shut by police after an "incident" has now been reopened.

Upper Stone Street was closed at the junction of Mote Road and Knightrider Street, but was reopened just before 7.30am.

A police spokesman said they were called out just before 2am to arrest a man for a reported assault.

When they arrived there they became concerned for the man's welfare and set up an area "to ensure the safety of all concerned".

The man was held just after 7am and he has been taken into custody. No injuries were reported.

A road closure was enforced at the junction where Upper Stone Street meets the junction with Mote Road and Knightrider Street however this has now been stood down.

Delays are still affecting the surrounding area, with congestion stretching back as far as the A20 Broadway and on Wat Tyler Way back to the A20 Ashford Road.
