Police were called to reports of suspicious activity in Barming, and later found a dumped car.

An eyewitness reported seeing four men acting suspiciously, and reported it to police.

The car, a Vauxhall Astra, was later recovered in Trellyn Close.

The witness, who did not wish to be named, said: "I saw four lads who looked around 19 or 20. They crossed the road and walked up it.

"I saw all the police cars so I flagged them down and asked if they were looking for them.

"They took me in the back of their squad car to search for them and identify them but they must have run off.

"I spoke to one of my neighbours and she said she saw them grab their coats and run off. Apparently they kept looking back towards the car as they left."

A burglary was reported in Pitt Road

Officers were seen searching the vehicle, and were later spotted in Pitt Road, where they had begun the search after an alleged burglary.

The suspects of this burglary are thought to have left the scene in the Vauxhall, which has now been seized for forensic tests.

Inquiries are ongoing.
