Maidstone West station

A "dangerous" man who armed himself with three knives and a carving fork bought from Poundland soon after being released from prison has been jailed for three years.

Raymond Doughty had just completed a sentence for making threats with a shotgun when he went to Maidstone West railway station with the weapons on December 20 last year.

Maidstone Crown Court heard the 31-year-old told police he wanted to stab a paedophile. He then waited to be arrested.

"This is a very troubling case. You are a serious crime waiting to happen..." - Judge Charles Byers

Doughty, of no fixed address, admitted four offences of possessing an offensive weapon in March and sentence was adjourned for a psychiatric report.

A judge said then: "This is likely to be repeated in future. There is a possibility he will carry out the threat."

Judge Charles Byers said today he would like to impose a hospital order, but the report stated Doughty was not suitable.

"I have to take into account the protection of the public."
