A Maidstone man with a long criminal history has been found dead in Faversham.

The body of John Stevens, who lived in a number of houses in Shepway, was found on Friday, November 27.

The 25-year-old father-of-one had a history of alcohol abuse and was last convicted in October after burgling Rumwood Cricket Club in Otham.

John Stevens' funeral will take place next week

The court heard how Mr Stevens had stopped drinking and had stumbled upon the ransacked sports club while on a late-night therapeutic walk.

He was linked to the crime scene after his DNA was found on a glass of squash.

Magistrates imposed a conditional discharge and instructed Mr Stevens to complete the remaining six months of a community order imposed for an earlier offence.

Police have confirmed Mr Stevens’ death is not being treated as suspicious and an inquest has not yet been scheduled.

His funeral will be held next Friday at Medway Crematorium.
