Pupils are once again walking out of schools across Kent this morning to demand action on climate change.

Dozens are attending demonstrations organised by the YouthStrike4Climate group in Canterbury, Deal, Faversham and Maidstone.

It comes after Kent County Council yesterday declared a climate change emergency, agreeing a commitment of "net zero" emissions by 2050.

Lucy Valls-Reed, a Year 9 pupil at Invicta Grammar, is with other youngsters outside Maidstone Town Hall.

She said: "We're here to try and make a change about climate change

"Nothing is really being done and it is getting worse, something needs to happen and if no one tries then nothing's going to happen.

"I think everyone should try more to make a difference."

However, councillors were accused of "letting down" the younger generation as the initial proposed target for carbon neutrality was some 20 years earlier.

A protest was held outside County Hall before the meeting by the Extinction Rebellion group, pictures of which can be viewed in our gallery below.

It comes as Deal's first climate strike demonstration today will see eco-friendly campaigners march along the High Street to demand action to slow down global warming.

It is by newly formed campaign group East Kent Climate Action (EKCA).
