Police sealed off an area close to the River Medway in Maidstone early today following a report of an assault.

A spokeswoman for Kent Police said the area, which includes part of the towpath close to Lockmeadow, was sealed off following a call to police at 4am.

She could not say what type of assault it was and no further information was being released. Police are still investigating.
