Scouts from across Kent had a smashing time after being challenged to crack watermelons into bite-sized pieces.

Explorer Scouts aged between 14 and 18 from across the county joined Network Scouts, who are 18 to 25, at Lower Grange Farm, Sanding, Maidstone, for a weekend camp which included bringing their unique inventions with them with the intention of smashing watermelons into mouthful-sized chunks.

They included dropping heavy weights on them and crushing them between heavy logs.

The weekend also included rifle shooting, a camp fire and the chance to scale the climbing wall which Kent Scouts have been constructing on the site for some time, which will have a living wall on the outside when completed early next year.
