A second power cut in two weeks has hit Maidstone town centre businesses.

The cut hit a number of buisinesses in the High Street and Middle Row, Maidstone, at 8.42 this morning.

Power was restored at 10.30am.

UK Power Networks said in a statement: " We would like to apologise to 70 customers in the Middle Row area of Maidstone for an interruption to power supplies at 8.42am today.

"Our engineers worked as quickly and as safely as possible to restore supplies, which happened at 10.30am.

We appreciate how difficult it can be to lose power and the inconvenience this can cause. Our engineers will be carrying out further work on the local underground electricity distribution network to ensure supplies are restored to their usual reliable state."

Letters of apology will be sent to affected businesses.

Last Monday, businesses also suffered several hours without power in a similar incident.

Work is currently being carried out on a £2 million High Street regeneration scheme.
