Kent Police detain 17 suspected illegal immigrants on Detling Hill A249 near Sittingbourne bound services

Seventeen suspected illegal immigrants were arrested after emerging from the back of a lorry on Detling Hill.

The suspects were spotted on the Sittingbourne bound carriageway of the A249 near the service station at around 8pm.

A Kent Police spokesman said: "Police were called to the A249 at 8pm following a report of pedestrians in the carriageway. Officers attended and 17 people were detained. They have been taken to immigration services."
