A road is set to be closed for up to a week after a sinkhole appeared earlier today.

Motorists are unable to go down West Street in Harrietsham after the hole appeared between the A20 Ashford Road and Goddington Lane at around 2.30pm.

Kent County Council say the road is now set to be closed for "up to seven days".

Describing the incident on their website, the council said: "Road closed May 11 for up to 7 days due to a void in the carriageway between Station Road and number 62."

A diversion has been put in place between West Street and Ashford Road. Stagecoach's 10X service was cancelled due to being unable to run along the road.

A spokesman said: "Due to a sinkhole appearing on West Street our 10X service will be unable to operate along this road.

"Services will remain on the A20 allowing passengers to board in a safe location. Apologies for any inconvenience."
