Pte David Taylor

Get behind your local infantry regiment.

That is the call being issued during Support Your Tigers week, aimed at raising support for Kent’s Princess of Wales’ Royal Regiment (PWRR), nicknamed The Tigers.

The Tigers currently have over 700 troops serving on overseas operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, recruits solely in the south and south east of England and is made up of two Regular Army Battalions - 1 PWRR based in Germany and 2 PWRR based in Cyprus - and one Territorial Army Battalion - 3 PWRR with TA Centres across the region.

Support Your Tigers started yesterday with the launch of PWRR wristbands, which cost £1. Money raised will be split between the PWRR welfare fund which supports injured soldiers and their families as well as the Help For Heroes Charity.

The wristbands can be purchased direct, using PayPal, from the PWRR website and from all Army recruiting offices across the region.

Each day this week we are featuring a local Tiger - today we introduce you to Lt David Taylor.

After seven years in the army Pte David Taylor is pretty used to life in the forces.

The 25-year-old from Maidstone serves with Z Company 2 in the Princess of Wales Royal Regiment.

Last year he spent three months in the war zone when he travelled with his company to Afghanistan.

His experience was so positive that he is now looking forward to going back again.

He said: "I really enjoyed it. It was a great tour. I particularly enjoyed the contact situation and being able to put all my training into practice in a real life situation. It was all good experience. I am really looking forward to going back."

Pte Taylor was equally positive about life in Cyprus, where he is based.

"The weather’s great and the water sport facilities out here are fantastic," he said.
