Sporting launch for Olympic years

The Olympics are ours! That was the message from the crowds in Maidstone’s Whatman Park, as the Games flag was officially passed from Beijing to Britain on Sunday.

A festival of sports, arts and culture included displays from the Pegasus Gymnastics Club, and live bands, like Maidstone-based Billy Wears Dresses.

The event was also attended by blind world speed skiing record holder Kevin Alderton, from Dartford.
