A young mechanic from Borough Green is one quarter of a team that won a county wide competition for young mechanics.

Jack Lindley, a pupil at K College, based on Brook Street, Tonbridge, took part in the contest alongside classmates Toby and Thomas Coomber and James Dobbs.

Their prize is the chance to spend a day with the Honda Race team at a Qualifying Day of the British Touring Car Championship this Autumn.

The 18-year-old said: “I really wasn’t expecting to win, let alone the chance to spend the day with the Honda Race Team. It’s a great feeling and a great surprise.”

The competition was organised by the Kent Association of Further Education Colleges and took place on Kings Standing Way, Tunbridge Wells last week.

Participants were set a series of practical assessments which included dismantling, measuring and checking front brake discs and pads.

Following that they had to investigate electrical current drain on their vehicle, and refit the engine camshaft drive belt, with marks awarded for team work.
